Offering fresh deli-style sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and salads, the New York Deli provides the perfect fare for scorching summer days. There's no reason to slave over the stove or heat up the kitchen -- just order out. I recently stopped by to gather some cuisine for the motley crew gathered at my casa. The kids, always the toughest food critics, gave high marks for their turkey and ham sandwiches. Lightly toasted and dripping with cheese (one provolone, one American), these sandwiches were "really, really good and cheesey" (a direct quote). Megan, who spends her days keeping a close eye on my kids (bless her!), enjoyed her turkey and Brie gourmet sandwich ($6.59). She reported that it had a good taste, and that she would definitely order it again. Dave, my sibling/squatter, tested the New York cheesesteak ($7.99 for a 12 inch). Piled high with prime beef, onions, and gooey, melted cheese, he seemed to enjoy it. It was pretty tough to tell, though, because he doesn't typically pause between bites. Being afflicted with wanderlust has caused Dave to spend quite a bit of time travelling the world. He also enjoys eating, so he's tasted food from all over. Though he was too busy stealing the kids' oatmeal raisin cookies to comment extensively, he did pause to give a "thumbs up." I, still trying to live life on the lighter side, ordered the Mediterranean salad. Offered in two sizes, half ($4.99) or full ($6.50), this is a must taste. Featuring crispy Romaine, feta cheese, Greek olives, marinated mushrooms, red onions, and herbs tossed together in a balsamic vinaigrette, this is an attraction that makes dieting almost palatable. Other offerings include wraps ($4.99) ranging from a chicken Caesar, Asian chicken, Mediterranean, to Santa Fe chicken. The Tuscan chicken panini ($5.99) also looks delicious. With chicken, roasted red peppers, onions, tomatoes, romaine, and basil pesto mayonnaise on fresh focaccia. That's another food journey I'll be taking, hopefully soon. Other offerings from the gourmet sandwich list include a roast beef and blue cheese on sourdough ($6.59), the big city BLT ($5.99), and even a vegetarian offering that blends mushrooms, green peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts, and carrots on nine grain bread ($6.59). Whatever your food favorites or foibles, you are sure to find something to please your palate at this establishment. With endless options of condiments and a menu of delectable deli treats, you and your clan are sure to enjoy your eating experience as much as we did. It would be a sin not to cap off your deli experience with a slice of New York cheesecake. Offered plain or with strawberry or cherry topping, this slice of heaven may be savored for a mere $2.89. Will we return? In a New York minute. |
