NuMarketsTM, the pioneer of eBay consignment selling centers for the public, announced today that it has appointed former CEO of Mail Boxes Etc., Etowah, TN - March 22 2004—Jim Amos, and Grady Vanderhoofven, Executive Vice President of Southern Appalachian Management Company, to its board of directors. James H. Amos, Jr. is chairman emeritus of Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), and past chairman of the International Franchise Association (IFA). He is also Managing Partner of Eagle Alliance Partners. MBE was the world's largest and fastest growing franchisor of retail business, communication and postal service centers. Based in San Diego, the MBE Network comprised nearly 4,500 locations worldwide, with master licensing agreements in more than 80 countries around the world. In 2001, Amos was instrumental in orchestrating the sale of MBE to United Parcel Services, who subsequently renamed the system, The UPS Store. Amos joined MBE in 1996. He also was instrumental in developing the mission, vision and core values that provide the foundation of MBE's strategic plan for the millennium. For eight years prior to joining MBE, he was the CEO of the Brice Group in Dallas. A former Marine Corps captain and veteran of two combat tours in Vietnam, Amos received 12 decorations, including the Purple Heart and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. During his career, Amos, a graduate of the University of Missouri, has been a leader in the franchising industry. Mr. Vanderhoofven is the Executive Vice President of Southern Appalachian Management Company, LLC, the General Partner of the Southern Appalachian Fund. The Southern Appalachian Fund is a venture capital fund focused on the southern Appalachian region of the United States. Prior to joining the Southern Appalachian Fund, Mr. Vanderhoofven was the Assistant Fund Manager for Southeast Capital Partners, L.P., a venture capital fund focused on Tennessee and the adjoining states. Prior to joining Southeast Capital Partners, Mr. Vanderhoofven worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for more than ten years. Mr. Vanderhoofven led the group responsible for identification and commercialization of intellectual property developed in an R&D organization with an annual budget exceeding $300 million. While at ORNL, he negotiated more than 50 license agreements and more than 125 commercial research and development agreements with national and international companies ranging from new company start-ups to Fortune 500 corporations. Mr. Vanderhoofven led ORNL in the creation of twelve start-up companies founded to commercialize technology developed at ORNL. Mr. Vanderhoofven has both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Yale University.
