As regional franchisees, the Walcotts are responsible for recruiting new store owners, helping with site selection and remodeling efforts, developing regional marketing promotions, providing training and on-going support, as well as acting as liaisons to the PostalAnnex+ corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA. The couple attributes their success in building one of the top performing PostalAnnex+ regions to their ability to forge strong relationships and share sound advice and ideas with their franchisees.

"My job is to find winning ideas and distribute them throughout our region, so our franchisees have the opportunity to be the most successful they can be," remarked Tom Walcott, Regional Franchisee for PostalAnnex+. In addition, Tom and Joan coordinate an informal monthly mixer for all franchisees and their employees in the region, in which all attendees can gain from group brainstorming sessions and networking.

Another reason for their success is their well-developed philanthropic streak, which has given them great visibility within their community. Over the years, the couple and their franchisees have helped local communities through a number of charitable endeavors. These have included raising medical funds for 9/11 victims through American Red Cross and Northwest Medical Teams International donation cans placed in their stores; a widely publicized annual Christmas Toy Drive; and "Operation: Greetings from Home" in conjunction with 860 KPAM in support of the troops in Iraq. Next month, in partnership with a national non-profit organization for missing children, twenty-two Portland area stores will kick off a Child Identification program throughout the Portland tri-county market.
