Whiplash The Cowboy Monkey Saves the Day

Taco John's New Advertising Campaign Rides like the Wind Cheyenne, WY - In their latest ad campaign, Taco John's introduces a new star - Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey. The fun-loving television spot stars Whiplash, who delivers fresh burritos from his saddlebag, in a time of a customer's dire need while riding on a Border Collie named Ben. This duo is helping Taco John's reintroduce the popular Crunchy Chicken and Potato Burrito. The advertising was created by Minneapolis-based ad agency, Kerker and will begin airing on May 3. According to Taco John's vice president of marketing, Brian Dixon, "This spot is about Taco John's fanatical desire to please our customers. Whiplash will not only get people talking about Taco John's like never before, but will build on the new momentum of our great line-up of West-Mex™ favorites." In this first spot, "The Burrito Incident," a man is so enamored with his fresh Crunchy Chicken and Potato Burrito that he walks into a mailbox, sending the burrito flying through the air. An enthusiastic Taco John's employee slides a new burrito into Ben's saddlebag and tells Whiplash, "Ride, ride like the wind." Whiplash saves the day and makes a special delivery to the poor fellow who dropped his meal. "Thanks, little monkey dude!" exclaims the lucky guy. The popular Crunchy Chicken and Potato Burrito features bite-sized pieces of chicken, special seasonings along with our signature Potato Olés® all rolled up in Taco John's great burrito. Whiplash is a favorite at rodeos and county fairs around the country and has won the hearts of thousands of fans with his lonesome face and quick-changing expressions. He is a 17 year old Capuchin Monkey. Whiplash was trained by Tommy and Anthony Lucia. They have raised him since he was two months old and is a big part of their family. Despite his monkey heritage of climbing trees and swinging on branches, Whiplash is a true cowboy and loves the Cowboy Way. He rides the range herding and rounding up sheep along with his trusty steed. Whiplash travels from city to city displaying his cowboy skills as he demonstrates the "proper" way to herd livestock. "There's something unforgettable and appealing about a monkey in a sombrero riding a dog to the rescue," said Chris Preston, Kerker creative director. "Taco John's people are different from other fast food places in that they really care about their customers and deliver great West-Mex food. We just took that truth and gave it an unusual flair." The spots will run in Midwest, North Central and Rocky Mountain states. Paul F. Fisherkeller, president and CEO of Taco John's said, "We are excited about the potential of this new advertising campaign. It takes our brand positioning to new heights." Taco John's operates and franchises more than 400 quick-service restaurants in 27 states. Independently owned and operated, the business opened its first restaurant in 1969. This year marks the 35th anniversary of serving tasty tacos across the country.
