Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Company is a concept with a 25-year history of operations, a loyal and passionate customer base, and a proven track record. Yet the concept is as fresh, dynamic and exciting as if it were brand new. We’ve recently decided to add to our existing base of franchisees, some of whom have been in operation for nearly 20 years, and we are now offering opportunities for franchises worldwide.

Domestic Franchising Opportunities

In markets across the United States, Barnie's Coffee was traditionally focused on expansion in mall stores through area development plans (under which the franchisee commits to developing multiple stores in a defined market). In response to a high demand for additional options, Barnie's has now expanded its franchising program to include single unit franchises and non-mall locations, in addition to area development agreements.

Barnie’s Gourmet Coffee & Tea Company was founded over 2 decades ago and has grown into America’s largest privately owned gourmet coffee and tea purveyor. Our passion for quality and service has established Barnie’s Coffee as the premium brand of gourmet coffee throughout the world. Barnie’s Coffee offers the world’s finest hand selected gourmet coffee beans with an extensive selection of gourmet coffee blends, flavored and decaffeinated in light, medium and dark roasts to satisfy every discriminating taste bud.

For markets outside the US, Barnies is seeking individuals or groups who are interested in developing franchises in multiple countries, an entire country or a significant region of a country. After building their own stores, master franchisees can also sub-franchise within their own territory.

While our master franchise program is focused on the establishment of Barnie's Coffee retail stores in the territory, we may also allow the master franchisee to fully develop the product, the brand and the concept in the territory. Example of additional use of the brand within a territory include: placing Barnies Coffees and other branded products on the shelves in supermarkets, wholesaling to restaurants and offices that brew coffee, working with national airlines to be the in-flight coffee and participating, through our website, in mail order and e-commerce sales. There are numerous opportunities for the master franchisee and its sub-franchisees to 'be' Barnies within the region, and not just with the retail store concept. Our focus with expansion is a multi-pronged development strategy so that the brand can be properly and fully exploited by the master franchisee in the territory.

What are the FEES associated with opening a franchise?
The total initial investment per Barnie's Coffee franchise is approximately $250,000 (including build-out, equipment, deposits, inventory, fees, etc.). The major portion of this investment is for leasehold improvements, so this number will fluctuate based on the space that we agree that you will develop. The initial franchise fee per store is $20,000 (included in the $250,000 figure stated above), and there is a continuing royalty in the amount of 7% of sales. We do not require contribution to a separate marketing fund. If you are interested in area development, we also charge a development fee of $5,000 per store to be developed in order to acquire exclusivity for the area, but you have the opportunity to earn back this fee by exceeding the minimum requirements set forth in the development agreement.

Barnie's Coffee offers single-unit franchises and multi-unit area development agreements in the US and internationally.

What is the average size of a Barnie's location?
Barnie's Coffee stores are typically 1200 to 2000 square feet. However, smaller or larger stores are an option. While many of our stores are usually located in upscale malls, we also offer the opportunity to go into outdoor lifestyle centers, strip shopping centers or downtown business districts. The immediate surrounding area is typically densely populated, has significant traffic and is highly visible from passing traffic.

How long will the PROCESS take once we sign a contract?
Most Barnie's Coffee franchise stores open within 5-6 months after the franchise agreement is signed.

How is the SITE SELECTED for my store? Can I open a Barnie's franchise in my hometown? Can you help me secure a location?

Many Barnie's Coffee franchisees have specific sites in mind when they contact us. If not, we rely on our database and an international network of brokers to help locate sites. Once the franchisee has selected a site, we will use our expertise too in order to evaluate the site

What is INCLUDED in the franchise system?
Owning and operating an assigned Barnie’s Coffee franchise store, use of the brand name, trademarks, recipes, access to marketing materials, operational systems and methods, and decor. Additionally, you will receive support in these specific areas:

Who DESIGNS and BUILDS my store?
Barnie's Coffee will provide the franchisee's architect with prototypical drawings and specifications. The Barnie's Coffee Franchise Team will offer assistance and help manage the realtionship between the franchisee, construction contractor and other construction suppliers.
