The new Taco John's International History Day Scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior entry determined by those judging the statewide history competition. The recipient must also plan to attend a Wyoming college.

"We are proud to reward a Wyoming high school senior for a year of research, preparation and plain, hard work," said Paul Fisherkeller, president and CEO of Taco John's International, Inc. "We want to recognize that effort with the new Taco John's International History Day Scholarship."

Wyoming History Day is a yearlong education program in which students conduct extensive research related to an annual theme and present their findings in the form of museum-like exhibits, multimedia documentaries, dramatic performances or research papers. The theme of this year's contest is "Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange in History."

"The people of Wyoming have been great supporters of Taco John's," Fisherkeller said. "We are committed to sponsoring this new scholarship every year at the History Day contest. Wyoming is our home, an important part of our company's heritage, and this is one way we are giving back to Wyoming and its people."

The first Taco John's store opened in Cheyenne in 1969. Taco John's currently operates and franchises 402 Mexican quick-service restaurants in 24 states. In Wyoming, Taco John's has 28 stores in 19 communities. 2004 marks the 35th anniversary for Wyoming's only national restaurant chain.
