This year, approximately ten million Americans will join health clubs and gyms* to try and fulfill weight loss resolutions and kick start a healthier lifestyle. Unfortunately, only a fraction of people who begin a new exercise routine will follow through to reach their ultimate fitness goals. To help consumers understand the factors contributing to the lack of fitness follow-through and find a health club that combats these factors, a new Web site FitQuiz.com provides consumers with a simple way to select a gym that is best based on their unique exercise needs and overall fitness objectives. Designed by University of Virginia Professor Diane Whaley, PhD, a national sport and exercise psychology expert, FitQuiz.com helps consumers choose a fitness center that is closely aligned with their exercise needs in terms of programming, staff, fitness level and other researched factors. By better aligning fitness center values and personal preferences, consumers are better able to adhere to a routine and reach their fitness goals. “FitQuiz.com provides individuals interested in joining a fitness facility with criteria to help determine how well the chosen facility meets their needs,” said Dr. Whaley. “Answering the FitQuiz.com questions should help raise awareness about an individual’s fitness center preferences, thereby increasing his or her chances of fulfilling personalized fitness goals.” In conjunction with 1-2-3 Fit, a new fitness center option that focuses on simple, customized exercise plans, Dr. Whaley researched both internal and external factors that contribute to an individual’s fitness behavior. Using results from this research, Dr. Whaley developed five core FitQuiz.com categories, each with specific questions designed to help consumers better understand and fulfill their fitness center needs. Each of the five FitQuiz.com categories addresses one of the factors Dr. Whaley defined in her research, including:
“We understand that everyone is motivated by different things when it comes to working out,” said Brooksy Smith, CEO of 1-2-3 Fit. “It’s important for all consumers to select a gym or health club that provides a range of services to meet these individual needs and we’re excited to work with Dr. Whaley to help ease that selection process.” |
