HealthWest Inc. Raises the Bar in the California MedSpa Industry

HealthWest, Inc. announced its new Inaara(R) MedSpa model based on extensive discussions with the California Medical Board.

The medspa industry in California has been under scrutiny for several months by the Department of Corporations and the Medical Board over the role of physicians. Franchise registrations have been denied or retracted, and the Medical Board has taken the stance that physicians must be in control to avoid corporate practice of medicine violations. Several new companies not owned by physicians have continued to operate in California under business consultant or licensing programs that utilize an old model for establishing medspas.

According to HealthWest's CEO, Dr. Manmohan (Mo) Biring, "The California Medical Board is taking steps to ensure companies involved in this industry comply with the corporate practice of medicine. HealthWest has had extensive discussions with the California Medical Board since January 2004. Based on these discussions, HealthWest has modified its Inaara(R) MedSpa model. These changes will potentially impact the entire industry."

Dr. Biring further states, "The California Medical Board feels that a physician must be in control of all aspects of this industry. The companies that will survive must be medically owned. This may leave Inaara MedSpa Inc., a professional medical corporation, as the only viable player in California."
