Del Taco franchise To Launch Pro Surfing Event

"Thanks to Del Taco, franchise opportunities which is launching the Del Taco Pro at the legendary Southside of the Huntington Beach Pier on July 9-11, 2004. Up-and-coming surfers and Southern California surf enthusiasts will now have another WQS (World Qualifying Series) surfing event in Huntington Beach, CA, America's LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (June 3, 2004) --"Del Taco franchise opportunities has been happily involved with the HB Surf Series for the past three years," said Joe Senger, senior marketing director of the Mexican-American quick-service restaurant chain. "After 40 years of Southern California surfers supporting Del Taco, we felt that there's no better way to return the favor and celebrate our role in local lore than to create our own surf contest. This evolution of our relationship with the HB Surf Series seems like a natural next step." The Del Taco Pro is being presented by Redsand and has been sanctioned as a one-star WQS event for the ASP World Tour and boasts a $10,000 prize purse. The three-day event will also be host to a festival that is free and open to the public including a Saturday appearance by 'Dan The Product Guy', Del Taco's TV spokesperson. Families are welcome to come and enjoy a day at the beach and cheer on local and national surfers on their quest to qualify for the World Championship Tour (WCT). "As a former WCT competitor, it feels great to bring a WQS event to my hometown," said Jeff Deffenbaugh, owner of HB Surf Series. "It is my goal to give back to the community of Huntington Beach, which has been so instrumental in my own surfing career."
