Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey, who made his Taco John's franchise debut in May, is back again. Known to save the day by delivering delicious Taco John's menu items while riding his Border Collie named Ben, the duo is helping the chain introduce a new Mexican Shredded Beef Quesadilla. The advertising was created by Minneapolis-based ad agency. According to Taco John's franchise vice president of marketing, Brian Dixon, "Whiplash in his heroic persona helps us build our brand image as the Mexican restaurant franchise that delivers great food to its customers. Taco John's has unique and distinctive franchise opportunity, as well as unique and distinctive advertising to match. Whiplash is spurring the Taco John's brand image and our products onto success." In this second spot, "Una Mas Quesadilla," a man sitting on a park bench sees a woman enjoying a new Mexican Shredded Beef Quesadilla from Taco John's. Jealously, he craves the tasty shredded beef, pepper jack cheese and chipotle sauce. Across town Whiplash senses the man's hunger, quickly saddles up his canine steed and rides to Taco John's. "Ride my little monkey friend!" exclaims the Taco John's employee, as he slides the freshly made quesadilla into Ben's saddlebag. Whiplash rides to the hungry man's rescue and saves the day with another West-Mex™ favorite. The Mexican Shredded Beef Quesadilla features Mexican shredded beef with a special smoky seasoning. It is made with 100% real cheese blend of pepper jack cheese, chipotle sauce and has a crispy, grilled tortilla shell. Whiplash is a favorite at rodeos and county fairs around the country and has won the hearts of thousands of fans with his lonesome face and quick-changing expressions. He is a 17 year old Capuchin Monkey. Tommy and Anthony Lucia have raised and trained Whiplash since he was two months old and is a big part of their family. Despite his monkey heritage of climbing trees and swinging on branches, Whiplash is a true cowboy and loves the Cowboy Way. He rides the range herding and rounding up sheep along with his trusty steed. Whiplash travels from city to city displaying his cowboy skills as he demonstrates the "proper" ways to herd livestock. "The difficulty in doing advertising in a category dominated by a corporate giant like Taco Bell is to breakthrough and not be mistaken for the big guy," says Kerker Creative Director, Chris Preston. "Whiplash breaks through as the typical food ballet spot never could, but he is still relevant to our audience and a fun way to remember Taco John's delivering their Mexican Shredded Beef Quesadilla to a hungry world." The spots will run in the Midwest, North Central and Rocky Mountain states. "Our customers are fanatical about our food and our owners and employees are fanatical about delivering great food," said Paul F. Fisherkeller, president and CEO of Taco John's. Taco John's operates and franchises more than 400 quick-service restaurants in 27 states. Independently owned and operated, the business opened its first restaurant in 1969. This year marks the 35th anniversary of serving great tasting food across the country.
