Looking for their next challenge, the Dunbars decided to pool their efforts and leverage all their past experience. Though Vicki had started her business from scratch, the Dunbars were intrigued by the idea of franchising and the wealth of options to choose from. After exploring everything from outdoor lighting installation to doggy daycare, the Dunbars set their sights on EYESthere. “We tested everything out and the features and functionality were unlike anything we’d seen before and could be tailored to each client’s individual needs,” said Vicki, 42. “As a business owner, I know how hard it is to keep an eye on everything so Doug and I knew it would be a welcome service to local businesses.” With two corporate-owned locations in Portland and Dallas, EYESthere launched its franchising program in March 2007. The company’s plans for the greater Tampa Bay area are in line with their goals for the rest of the country. EYESthere expects to have 210 locations in major markets throughout the country by 2010. EYESthere has identified 530 potential franchise markets throughout the country. Territories are determined by the number of households and/or businesses within a given Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), but generally equal about 500-700,000 in total population. Major metropolitan markets are capable of supporting multiple EYESthere franchises. The estimated initial investment for an EYESthere franchise ranges from $187,350 to $294,950, including a $45,000 franchise fee, which is reduced to $35,000 for each subsequent EYESthere business. Though they are not yet open for business, the Dunbars are already hopeful about the future. “If our business is as well received as I think it will be, we hope to be servicing all of Tampa within a few years,” said Doug. “EYESthere is focused on continuous improvement and the staff that supports us on a day-to-day basis has been invaluable in efficiently and effectively assisting us get our business off the ground – just another case of how an extra set of eyes can’t hurt!”
